|Day 1)||North Tour: visit the famous Emerald Pool, a resting point for the old time Kalinago; a bath in the pool is believed to have rejuvenating effects – drive along the east coast through the Kalinago Territory and visit the Kalinago Barana Auté, an open air museum showcasing the daily life of the indigenous people: get to know the real and very last Kalinago of the 21st century. Lunch at the village’s open air restaurant. - Drive along the north coast with its golden sandy beaches – row boat ride on the Indian River, one of the film locations of “Pirates of the Caribbean II”.|
|Day 2)||Hike to Middleham Fall: being part of the Morne Trois Piton National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site, the Middleham Fall is the tallest of Dominicas numerous water falls.
From the starting point in Sylvania the trail leads directly into the tropical rainforest. Hike for about two hours and experience the only remaining virgin rainforest in the Caribbean. A short descent takes you down to the platform, from where you enjoy a spectacular view of the impressive 80m cascade falling down into a pool. The brave climb down the rocks and get a very refreshing bath in the pool. Picnic lunch. Back on the main trail you continue the hike to Laudat. Visit of the Trafalgar Falls in the afternoon.
|Day 3)||Have a lazy morning and an early lunch before you go whale watching. The boat takes you out into the Caribbean Sea off the west coast where a large population of sperm whales lives all year round. Also pilot, false orca and, rarely, beak whales as well as five different species of dolphins can be seen. It takes some luck to see humpbacks during the months of March and April.|
|Day 4)||South East Tour: drive south along the west coast through the Capital Roseau to Loubière where you leave the coast and drive past the Kubuli brewery up to Bellevue Chopin and down to Grand Bay along the south coast. The “steepy road” takes you up to the top of Morne Paix Bouche (“shut-up mountain”) with fantastic views over the channel and the island of Martinique. A scenic drive along the south east coast takes you to the Glassy Trail. A short hike leads 300m down onto a cold lava stream into the Atlantic Ocean. River bathing and lunch at Riverside Café in La Plaine. Visit of Bout Sable, the turtle beach.|
|Day 5)||Today you hike to the Boiling Lake, the second largest of its kind in the world. On the way you hike through five different zones of tropical vegetation and cross the unique Valley of Desolation. Have a picnic lunch above the boiling waters and enjoy the spectacle of the constantly changing scenery. On the way back bathe in natural jacuzzies and end your hike with a swim in the Titou Gorge.
Note: Boiling Lake is a strenuous hike of 6 – 8 hours. If you prefer another less strenuous hike you can choose from a number of other hikes.
